Reading Tavarish’s latest top ten on most beautiful cars under $10k got me thinking what are they best cars that should have had a manual option? The Jaguar XK8 is a good one. Virtually all the recent supercars are nominees. What are your picks? That’s right I said picks as in plural because this is Oppo and we’re allowed more than one per customer.

SVX.

Weird you bring this up because I saw a manual XK8 recently, which as you can guess was proper confusing.
However after a bit of hunting around I found there is a manual conversion kit for the XK for £7000 which includes VAT & fitting.
That seems like a good deal. Not sure if I would do it as you can buy a lot of great cars for less £15,000.
Actually balls to that the XKR was better than the DB7 but that damn autobox let it down. I best start saving those pennies.

G8 GT. Why the GXP only got the 6 speed is beyond me.

Interesting. I did not know there was a proper kit for that. Probably hard to find a better looking, more powerful car for that money.

1,500Kg load lugger that seats five in comfort with limousine like rear legroom, superb road comfort, well thought out and practical interior elegant exterior and when tuned slightly gives a beautiful exhaust warble.
For less money than most cars of it’s size or class on the road.
((I still can’t figure out why it only posts the video URL link when I post as when I’m writing this now, the video image is there, but disappears when I publish it. So bloody annoying and I’ve tried all the options of cutting an pasting)). Rant over.

With a stick, it’s a Cayman killer. Without one, I flat out don't care about it.

Lexus SC300.
To be fair, there WERE manual versions, but they’re EXTREMELY rare (I’ve seen exactly one ever). This is too bad, because it’s the same drivetrain as a Supra, which deserves at least a manual option.

These guys will swap an LS with a stick. I bet you can buy a roller for under $5k.

Love the long roof. Is Skoda to VW like Buick to Chevy?

There was a reason for this, I just can't remeber what it was.

Subaru didn’t have a proper gearbox available that could handle the more powerful engine?
![]() 10/28/2015 at 17:38 |

I think small engines with big turbo’s are more fun with a proper dual clutch transmission. It can hide the lag for 95% of the time.

No. Skoda is to VW what VW is to Audi.

Here’s my baby girl (she’s a 1.4TSi manual) parked in front of a mate’s Focus Mk2 TDCi after I gave both a wash.
Skoda and SEAT are like the entry level to VW and Audi.

Yes, but they stripped it out and have it a manual steering rack and stuff like that for the purpose of driver engagement then proceeded to take the most engaging aspect of the car out.

C63 AMG. Or pretty much any C or E class AMG model. Especially the CLK Black Clarkson used to own.

I thought it was a decision by Subaru to offer auto only in America because autos were still seen a trait associated with Luxury cars, which is what they tried to make the SVX be.

If you have the chance, drive one. I have and I am 100% sure you will not find it lacking engagement :). This car works better with this gearbox. In my opinion this engine would simply not be as enjoyable with a manual. If the Alfa had a NA engine like a Porsche Cayman I would agree with you, but that small 1750 needs the gearbox to hide the gaps in force-fed power.

I should note: once I get the BBGPM functioning, I intend to break my self-imposed Tavarish avoidance and post it as the answer to something. For the lulz. BTW, I’m currently trying to arrange things to be able to haul on Saturday. New tires on the trailer in the morning, and repacking bearings/working on trailer brakes tomorrow. Truck and minion are available.

It’s the same size as a VW Passat estate which it’s based on and an Audi A6 which it shares a lot of parts with.
The interior is by far the most roomiest.
As they say. It’s not the size, it’s how you use it.

That would be pretty funny. As for this weekend I am not sure I will be able to be there for you to pick it up. Although I am not sure that is a problem anyway. But I can let my uncle know

If the tires are aired up, I don’t think we would need anything other than maybe an outdoor outlet available (which there probably is anyway) for running a 120V winch. No air in tires... prob. would just need to know to bring a tank and/or 12V compressor.
![]() 10/28/2015 at 19:27 |

I can see about that and get back to you. The front passenger and rear driver lose air quickly. As for the other two they hold air pretty well.

The reason is that in 1992, Subaru didn’t have a 5-speed that could handle EG33’s torque. The 4EAT barely did, and the EG33 was de-tuned to suit it.
Not until the 2000 WRX was a 5-speed sold in the US that was set to cope with that sort of torque, although by then, the SVX had been off the market for 3 years, and already had unfortunately cost Subaru a lot of money, due to not sharing most of the other components.
I always wanted to put a 2007-09 Legacy GT Spec.B VTD 6-speed and R180 Torsen Differential into an SVX. 60% rear default and variable torque bias, with a robust 6-speed gear set and case (related to STI gearbox, not the standard 5-speed Subaru gearbox), and a 3.54:1 effective cruising final-drive. The ideal gearbox for a Subaru H6, and a Grand Touring Coupe like SVX. It can be made to fit, too, but is from an entirely different era of Subaru cars.

However good or not it may be... it is no Cayman killer, whether the Porsche has a 6MT or PDK.
